Patrick Madrid's Top Ten Favorite Non-Theological Bible Verses

#10 Do not eat anything you find already dead (Deut. 14:21).

#9 Give beer to those who are perishing, and wine to those in anguish (Prov. 31:6).

#8 Some small boys came out of the city and jeered at [Elisha], saying, "Go up you baldhead! Go up, you baldhead!" And he turned around and when he saw them, he cursed them in the name of the Lord. And two she-bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the boys (2 Kgs 2:23).

#7 "Dorcas" (Acts 9:36).

#6 Spend the money for whatever you desire...wine or strong drink, or anything else you would enjoy, and there before the Lord, your God, you shall partake of it and make merry with your family (Deut. 14:26).

#5 I will accept no bull from your house (Psalm 50:9).

#4 A fool's lips bring strife, and his mouth invites a beating (Proverbs 18:6).

#3 The sluggard buries his hand in the dish, [but] it wears him out to bring it back to his mouth (Proverbs 26:15).

#2 Behold, you are beautiful, my love! ...You hair is like a flock of goats ...your belly is a heap of wheat ...your nose is like a tower of Lebanon overlooking Damascus (Song of Solomon 4:1, 7:2, 4).

#1 There is an outcry in the streets for lack of wine (Isaiah 24:11).

On Faith in God

"First of all, believe that there is one God who created and finished all things, and made all things out of nothing. He alone is able to contain the whole, but Himself cannot be contained. Have faith therefore in Him, and fear Him; and fearing Him, exercise self-control. Keep these commands, and you will cast away from you all wickedness, and put on the strength of righteousness, and live to God, if you keep this commandment."

--The Shepherd of Hermas, Book II, Para. 1

Even God enjoys a good laugh...

There were 3 good arguments that Jesus was Black:
1. He called everyone brother.
2. He liked Gospel.
3. He couldn't get a fair trial.

Then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Jewish:
1. He went into His Father's business.
2. He lived at home until he was 33.
3. He was sure his Mother was a virgin and his Mother was sure He was God.

Then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Italian:
1. He talked with His hands.
2. He had wine with His meals.
3. He used olive oil.

Then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was a Californian:
1. He never cut His hair.
2 He walked around barefoot all the time.
3. He started a new religion.

Then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was an American Indian:
1. He was at peace with nature.
2. He ate a lot of fish.
3. He talked about the Great Spirit.

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Irish:
1. He loved large gatherings that served alcohol.
2. He was always telling stories.
3. He loved green pastures.

But the most compelling evidence of all - 3 proofs that Jesus was a WOMAN:
1. He fed a crowd at a moment's notice when there was no food.
2. He kept trying to get a message across to a bunch of men who just didn't get it.
3. And even when He was dead, He had to get up because there was work to do. AMEN

Ahoy, There!

So, I want to make this blog back alive. Being it's very old and very, very, very...dead, it might take some time! Buuut I'm looking forward to this. I like to just keep journals and stuff like that for my own blog, but I'll definitely use this for reviews of anything basically! Books, movies, news, politics, food, coffee. Anything!! I hope all you joining use it wisely so we don't get a repeat of *ehem* history. :-p

I just gotta name my favorites of stuffs rights nows.

My favorite book right now is The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak. It's an absolutely splending/heartbreaking book of an adopted orphan living in Germany with a family during the WWII era. The development of each character is absolutely fantastic; you'll be able to relate to any character in no time. Apart from character development, the author's style of writing (the narrator is Death, for example) makes you want to laugh, cry, scream...just about anything! I definitely recommend this book to anybody up to it. Definite ***** (5 stars)

Also...for movies. I'd say that Iron Man is the most popular among people. Though I can't help but think of it as a disappointment. The climax was too much of (spoiler alert) Iron Man running and flying away from the bad guy...I mean, wouldn't it be MUCH cooler if he had a spare generator thingy?? That would make the action so much better. Oh, and the action reminded me a bit too much of Transformers (which was way better, anyways). Though...only the action disappointed me. The humor and plot and everything else throughout kept me going. I don't really have favorites for movies this year...nothing really has JUMPED out. BuuuuutI think the best thing I've watched this year would have to be Juno.

Juno= absolutely a fantastic movie. I'd recommend anybody mature enough (it has some scenes and comments and jokes that are a bit more for the higher-aged group) to watch it. It'll be the cheese to your macaroni!

Cheers.

The Prestige

From acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan, comes a mysterious story of two magicians whose intense rivalry leads them on a life-long battle for supremacy full of obsession, deceit and jealousy with dangerous and deadly consequences. From the time that they first met as young magicians on the rise, Robert Angier (Hugh Jackman) and Alfred Borden (Christian Bale) were competitors. However, their friendly competition evolves into a bitter rivalry making them fierce enemies-for-life and consequently jeopardizing the lives of everyone around them. Full of twists and turns, THE PRESTIGE is set against the backdrop of turn-of-the-century London, the exceptional cast includes two-time OscarĀ® winner Michael Caine, Scarlett Johansson and David Bowie.

I L-O-V-E this movie!!! It was AMAZING!!! Easily ***** (yes...5) stars! You all had better see it!

Bigger Than Teddy Bear Day

Today is September 11th of 2006, the fifth anniversary of the deadliest terrorist attacks against our nation.

On the morning of September 11th, 2001, 19 men affiliated with al-Qaeda hijacked four different airlines. Two of these airlines, the United 175 and the American 11 flew into the World Trade centers, causing them to collapse. A third, the American 77, crashed into the Pentagon. The fourth airliner, United 73, was hijacked but later courageously attempted to be retaken by the passengers and members of the aircraft. These people used all they could to stop the worst from happening...In their daring attempt to retake the aircraft, United 73 had crashed into a field near Shanksville, Penn.

Along with the 19 hijackers, a total number of 2,973 people lost their lives that day and still 24 people are missing. Many people, normal business men, passerbys, police and firemen alike, most likely lost their lives trying to save as many people as they could.

Lets use this day to remember all those lives lost. To remember their bravery; to remember them as normal people lost to a horrific terrorist attack. In anyway, lets use this day to remember them. God Bless.
