Merry Christmas- I'm a Rebel!

So, I'm sure you've all heard the contraversy over whether or not certain businesses are going to use the phrase "Merry Christmas" or not during the holiday season. There are two parts to ths story; one is that these businesses are choosing to use the phrase "Happy Holidays" or something of the like in the ads. That is fine by me, I don't really care if it says Happy Holidays or Merry Christmas, because I realize that some people don't celebrate Christmas and thus prefer the afore mentioned statement. However, the other side ot this story is the one that bothers me. Some businesses are actually banning their employees from greeting customers with the phrase "Merry Christmas". That's just not right to me. It violates our freedom of speech and freedom of religion. I must now quote my mother who put it better than I ever could,

"If you don't like hearing the term 'Merry Christmas' because you don't celebrate Christmas, you should not tell others that they can't say it. You should not take away their constitutional rights. and if you don't Celebrate Christmas, you should NOT take the day off of work you slacker!"-Julie Teig

I pretty much agree with her. What do you guys think about all this?

  • I'm already loving that quote, yeah, I like the Merry Christmas alot, but now I just wish everyone would say that because all across our main street, there are banners saying "Seasons' Greetings" and "Happy Holidays" not one "Merry Christmas"!!!

  • You could probably say Happy Hanuka....but not Merry Christmas...

  • Yeah, our society is so backward these days. Trying not to offend anyone by saying Merry Christmas, but really, they're offending people by not saying it!

  • Y'all probably already heard the story about the Bush's family Christmas cards. No "Merry Christmas" just "Happy Holidays". There are a lot of angry conservative Catholics as a result of this. I, in particular, don't mind the phrase, though I prefer to use the other. I think that it just goes to show how much human respect we need to lose. Besides, no one would be we saying "Happy Holidays" if we didn't have Christmas.

  • Very true.

  • Did you know that Bush, both father and son, are free-masons? Well kinda. I mean he's kinda like a free-mason. Yeah, they both belong to the "Skull and Crossbones" society. It's not really like free-masonry, and it's not a branch of it either. I found out that you can only be part of the cult is if you graduate from Yale. Wierd, huh?
